Side Effects of Not Releasing Sperm

Causes

Retrograde ejaculation is rare. It most often happens when the opening to the bladder (bladder neck) does not close. This causes semen to back up into the bladder instead of out the penis.

Retrograde ejaculation can also be caused by:

Diabetes
Some medications, for example, some drugs to treat high blood pressure and some that make your mood worse
Medicines or surgery to treat prostate or urethral problems

Symptoms

Cloudy urine after orgasm
Little or no expulsion of semen during ejaculation
tests and exams
A urinalysis taken shortly after ejaculation shows a large number of sperm in the urine.

Treatment

Your health care provider may recommend that you stop taking any medications that may cause retrograde ejaculation. This may make the problem go away.

Retrograde ejaculation that is caused by diabetes or surgery can be treated with medications such as pseudoephedrine or imipramine.
